Extended Guide on Citation Tools

This online library guide is developed to help Kingsborough students learn about the citation tools available online and in the library.

Citing Tools in Library Databases - Pt1

When students use library databases to research and locate sources for their assignment, they have the added advantage of using citation tools in the database systems to help them create citations in the required citation styles. These tools are usually displayed on the top or side menu bar of the database.

Many of the library databases belong to EBSCO. Below is a helpful video on using citation tools in EBSCO databases such as Academic Search Complete.

Other examples from popular databases used in many English courses are:

  • In Proquest databases such as The Wall Street Journal, you should find an icon with the picture of a letter and the word "Cite" next to it (below). Click on it and you will obtain the citation for the article.

  • In Gale databases such as Academic OneFile, you should find the same tool in a Tools box (below). Click on the Citation Tools link and you will be able to obtain the citation for your item.

  • In JSTOR, you will see the tool box displayed (below). As you can see, there are more ways in this database to save your citation.

  • In yet other library databases, you will see the Citation tools displayed as follows:

1) LexisNexis

2) CQ Researcher

Next time when you're in a library database, remember to look for these citation tools!

They will help you save the records of items to reference in your papers and assignments.
